Mahakala is a Himalayan / Tibetan god or deity and despite his usually wrathfil appearance, he is a Dharmapala / protector. Mahakala is the spouse of Goddess Kali and as such prominent in Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism. His name derived from Sanskri: maha = great and kala = time/death, which means “beyond time” or “beyond death”.
